Discovery of the Pangalanes Canal: day trip The Pangalanes Canal forms a navigable waterway for more than 654 km on the east coast of Madagascar..In 1896, General Joseph GALLIENI took the initiative to build this artificial channel. With the aim of creating easy access for the transport of local products and materials to Tamatave port.
Departure from the main seaport with private bus to the river port then start with motorboat covered with a tarpaulin equipped with life jackets. During the course you will discover the daily life of the peasants: many bus boats loaded with goods and at the same time passengers. Families travel in their little traditional pirogue, women doing laundry on the canal, fishermen, etc. After an hour of sailing, stop and visit the village of Ambodisaina typically Betsimisaraka village located along the canal. In this village you will observe local activities such as basketry, weaving fishing net, local rum, etc. At the end of the village we will continue the visit to the village of Ariane where we are going to have lunch this day. After lunch we will embark again to the motorboat to join the bus. Once arrived to the main city of Tamatave we will visit the main market (Bazar-be) to buy some souvenirs and once done with it we will head back to the port on word to the cruise ship.
