EAST & SAINT MARIE ISLAND
The east of Madagascar is known for its beautiful and authentic landscapes. The incomparable beauty of the wildlife and flora in this region ultimately inspire tourists to frequently visit this area. Madagascar is the only place in the world that has lemurs and the biggest lemur reserve in Madagascar is located in Andasibe Park. Sainte Marie island is a beautiful white sand beach with warm waters and deep blue seas. Between the months of June and September, the local “Betsimisaraka” tribe and several NGOs in the region come together to celebrate the famous “whale festival” which takes place in Sainte Marie Island.
When you are arrive at the airport, we will be there waiting for you holding a sign with your name on it. After picking you up at the airport we will drive to our hotel in Antananarivo and give you a special briefing about our upcoming journey and answer any questions you may have about our upcoming adventure.
After breakfast our journey will begin with a relaxing three hour drive from Antananarivo to Andasibe Park (called also Analamazoatra). After our arrival to Andasibe we will take a moment to get settled into our hotel and make sure our journey is as smooth and relaxing as possible. During the evening we will take a look the nocturnal animals such as the biggest chameleon in the world, nocturnal lemurs, snakes and other animals
During day 3 of our journey we will be exploring more of Andasibe park and together we will meet and learn about different species of lemurs, monkeys and wild birds including the “flying-catcher” the Bleu vanga Coua bird. We will also look at various trees such as the “Palissandre” tree and the “Ebony” tree, etc. In the afternoon, we will venture through the private reserve of “Vakona”, where we will look at other animals such as the foxes and crocodiles
On day 4 after breakfast we will continue our journey to the beautiful village of Foulpointe. During our drive to Foulpointe, we will see the hypnotizing green landscape with the “Ravinala”, which is unique to the east coast of Madagascar. On our way to Foulpointe we will stop in Tamatave (locally known as Toamasina). This region is famous because it is the first and biggest commercial port in Madagascar. In general Tamatave is a “must see” place because of its historical significance to Madagascar and its good atmosphere. After our stop in Tamatave city we will continue our drive with spectacular views of the Indian Ocean to our final destination for the day Foulpointe. Foulpointe is known for its calm sea surrounded by naturally long wall coral. Upon our arrival to Foulpointe we will settle into our hotel and will have free time to use at your leisure.
34KM OR ONE HOUR ON THE WAY AND 3 HOURS FOR SHIPPING
On day 5 of our journey we will begin to make our way towards Sainte Marie Island, our final destination during this adventure. We will drive one hour from Foulpointe and arrive at the small port town of Mahambo where we will catch a ship that will transport us to the majestic island of Sainte Marie. After our arrival to Sainte Marie island we will settle into our hotel room and take a moment to get get comfortable and enjoy some free time etc. Sainte Marie is a small Island with the surface scale of 60 kilometers long and 7 kilometers wide. The island is known as an Island for Pirates, here you will find many interesting and historical places, such as pirates’ tomb cemetery, a natural swimming pool located north of the island, and also visit “Ile-aux-Nattes” and “Ilot-Madame” which are two small Islands located in south of Sainte Marie.
During Day 6 and Day 7 of our journey together we will have two days of free time in which we can either continue to explore the beautiful island of Sainte-Marie or simply relax by the ocean and enjoy the beauty of the Indian Ocean.
45 MINUTES IN FLIGHT
During day 8 after breakfast, we will take a 45 minute flight from Sainte Marie to Antananarivo. After our arrival to Antananarivo we will check into our hotel and take some time to get settled. In the afternoon, we will take a moment to go and explore historical places in Antananarivo, including the Manjakamiadana Palace, the Andafiavaratra museum, in which we will learn about the history of the Malagasy Kingdom.
During day 9 of our journey, which is also our last day together, we have a free morning for shop for souvenirs to bring back home. During our shopping tour we will look at Malagasy craftwork, local spices, vanilla, and much more After shopping we will prepare for our departure to Ivato International airport. We will arrive at the airport 2 hours before your departure time.
